Meet the Band

Chris Carpio 和 Bernard Carpio 兩兄弟的故事甚有歷史代表性。他們來自 Carpio 音樂世家，祖父在上海是著名 Banjo 樂手，二戰期間帶著 15 歲的 Tony Carpio 來港，亦即 Chris 和 Benard 的父親，也是杜麗莎父親的兄弟，後來成為出色爵士樂結他手。他成立的家庭式爵士樂公司 Carpio Music 在行內地味十足，商業演出和音樂教育並行；父親近年逐漸淡出，兄弟二人亦以準備好繼承下去，回想過去父親的嚴厲教導，心存感激：「否則不能成就今天的我們。」

“Our parents had a residency at Dickens Bar in The Excelsior hotel for 19 years, my mum sang while she was pregnant with me. I got my love for the saxophone watching my dad’s big band. I got a plastic one when I was two, and I was angry – I wanted a real one!”

Those who lament the demise of the city's live music scene should keep an ear out for Chris, section of Hong Kong's first family of jazz.
